Passion Pit – Manners
This first one is a personal favorite for the day but Jonny HATES it. Check out the song Sleepyhead which was also on their debut EP Chunk of Change (the artwork of which was done by our friend Frank Napolski). This is just great (if not slightly weird) summer music. It may not be for everyone (squares like Jonny) but I’m loving it.
The Whitest Boy Alive – Rules
Second up is the new longplayer by The Whitest Boy Alive. I’ve only really known about Whitest boy via remixes like Fred Falke’s mix of Golden Cage. Today I did a little research and found out what I should’ve realized right away; the singer is none other than Erlend Øye aka “The Singing DJ” aka lead singer of Kings of Convenience as well as accomplished solo artist.
This album has a light disco-pop vibe (ugh I make myself cringe when I try to describe music in words). The track 1517, for instance, fades out with a bit of an interpolation of Harder Better Faster Stronger (or Cola Bottle Baby if you want to get nit-picky). The songs very from up-tempo and danceable to slower ballads and Øye’s voice as well as the band’s instrumentation works very well in both instances.

I don’t know how long this has been up but I just found our good friend Jess Jubilee’s web page and the domain name alone is newsworthy.
You may remember the mixtape she did for us back in November.
She’s one of the sweetest people I’ve ever had the pleasure to know (she once sent me a battery powered dolphin tooth brush in the mail “just because”) as well as a fantastic dj. She’s really on her grind right now, traveling the globe, performing and raving out. Check for her.
We threw our first party in a while on Saturday. It started out slow but erupted into chalk wall, Red Bull girl, product selling and greatest friends in Buffalo extravaganza.
